
In translating them, Sindel discovers an incantation meant to transfer Onaga's soul back into his original body. Sindel and Jade travel to Outworld and find an open sarcophagus holding Onaga's original body in a tomb covered in Edenian hieroglyphics. Having rediscovered the truth, the mind control over her is broken, and she defeats Shao Kahn, freeing Earth and Edenia, paving the way for a reunion with Kitana. Sindel has visions of her past as the queen of Edenia, her daughter Kitana, and her true husband, Jerrod. As a result, Sindel massacres the remaining warriors aligned with Earthrealm, and Kitana's pleas to her brainwashed mother fall on deaf ears. Once freed, she and Kitana broker an alliance with the Shokan people and wage war against Shao Kahn.įollowing the events of Deadly Alliance, Sindel's plans are disrupted by the awakening of the Dragon King Onaga. Sindel is subsequently captured and held prisoner until Shinnok and his forces are driven out. However, before Sindel can do much to restore her power, Tanya, the daughter of an Edenian ambassador, betrays Edenia to a Netherrealm army led by Shinnok.

Shao Kahn's defeat also separates Edenia from Outworld, allowing Sindel to reclaim the throne. During this time, Kitana is able to find her mother and break the mind control holding Sindel under Shao Kahn's sway. Following his defeat at the hands of Earth's warriors, Shao Kahn is forced to retreat to Outworld.

However, Kahn's victory over Sindel is short-lived. Upon her resurrection, Sindel is put under mind control and believes herself to be Shao Kahn's loyal wife. Shao Kahn is thus able to cross into Earthrealm himself in order to claim Sindel and form a connection between Earth and Outworld. With the aid of the Netherrealm god Shinnok, Kahn has Sindel restored to life in Earthrealm. Unwilling to accept this fate, she kills herself.įollowing Shang Tsung's failure in the first Mortal Kombat, Shao Kahn uses Sindel's death as an opportunity. In the end, Jerrod was killed, and Sindel was forced to marry Shao Kahn. A benevolent woman and wife to the Edenian King Jerrod and mother of Princess Kitana, she was captured when Shao Kahn's forces invaded from Outworld. Sindel served as the queen of Edenia some ten thousand years before the events of the first Mortal Kombat. Following her first appearance in the series, she would later reappear in Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. She is the queen of Edenia and mother of Kitana, but for a time was also rendered undead and served as the wife of Shao Kahn.
